Kamilla Thorsen Jewellery was founded in Denmark in July 2018. Kamilla hand makes her designer jewellery pieces from her workshop in the historic seaside town of Svendborg in South Fyn, Denmark. Situated in a charming building in the old cobbled yard 'Ribers Gård' which was previously an old farmers yard and most recently a printers studio.
The Design Process
Kamilla's inspirations come from organic textures found in nature and she has always been drawn to the Art Nouveau period. Each piece is developed from the original design idea to the finished product by sketching on paper to free forming the piece in metal.
Denmark to England and return
Kamilla Thorsen Jewellery is formerly known as Dynasty Jewellery, which was founded in London England in 2008, and became popular for its butterfly and moth collection made from colourful plexiglas.
Kamilla was educated at the Gold-smithing School in Copenhagen and took several jewellery courses before leaving for England to study Art and Printed Textiles at Brighton University in year 2000.
'England was my home for almost half my life and both Brighton and London influenced my work and ethics as a designer. I kept making and designing jewellery as a hobby and so it evolved and is now a full time business.
After some time selling at places like Portobello Road market, I developed a customer base and opened the award winning jewellery boutique in Shoreditch named Thor & Wistle. It was a fantastic location for us as young designers and with hardly any budget the store was built from used and salvage materials. The store won the following awards:
Hot 100 Retail Star - Professional Jewellery Awards 2014
Winner of: Boutique Retailer of the Year - UK Watch & Jewellery Awards 2014
Rose & Thorn boutique in the heart of Brixton Village, became my second boutique project and it sold Danish homeware, children's interiors and Jewellery from Dynasty Jewellery. The store is still there and under new management, and still retails a small selection of my pieces.
18 years, two boutiques, a husband and two baby girls later, it was time to return to Denmark to re-discover its beauty and to open up new opportunities for me and my family. I think fondly of my time in England and it will always feed my inspiration.
